SCIENCE FICTION CONCERT
SCIENCE FICTION CONCERT
The pandemic has changed many of our habits and caused negative effects in many areas. We now use this almost like a slogan at the beginning of every sentence. Of course, the changing conditions and circumstances are related to the sense of survival, which is the biggest and primary concern of human beings. However, there are such leaps that people aim to enjoy life rather than survival and cannot stop this urge.
For some, enjoying life is directly proportional to money, for others, enjoying life is completely spiritual. With the food of the soul, it is of course music. The concerts that were canceled during the pandemic, the tours that were left halfway, and the closed art spaces deeply affected our meeting or sharing with the music that is the food of our soul. Even though the solos to make music in our house, from balcony to balcony have let a little breath breathe, the unfinished dances are incomplete.
We talked to you about the man traveling with balloons before… The US band The Flaming Lips started using the plastic balloon event in their concerts by exaggerating a little so that they could bring people together with their music and to prevent unfinished dances. After their 6th album released on September 11, they gave an interesting concert performance on October 13th. The group performed a similar performance on the famous comedian Jimmy Fallon’s show before. Wayne Coyne, one of the members of the group, stated that although the capacity of the venue was designed to accommodate thousands of people in terms of the concerts they planned, hundreds of people could be fit into these spaces with plastic balloons. I drew a small drawing, Coyne told CNN. “I drew the picture of The Flaming Lips during a show in 2019. I was the only person in the space balloon and everyone was normal. Then I made another drawing for 2020. Exactly the same scenario, I’m in a bubble, and so did everyone else.”
As the music industry as a whole is the creative industry and continues to seek alternatives to tours, festivals and live shows amid diminishing support from governments, new alternatives are constantly emerging. The repercussions of the epidemic will of course be felt for years to come, but whether it’s from virtual concerts in your living room, ticketed broadcast events, or venues with one-third capacity, it’s clear that the music industry is keen to return. Of course, The Flaming Lips hopes that concerts will soon return to normal, like everything else. For now, the band is making great efforts to give everyone a crazy and unique experience at their concerts. Music lovers also seem very pleased with this situation.
As soon as the disease ends, when the new disease happens, how many pandemics await us, we do not know, but every sector continues to produce its own solutions, and the protagonist in these solutions seems to have no alternative in making our lives easier. Sci-fi concerts continue thanks to plastic.
