TYPES OF PLASTIC PACKAGING AND USAGE AREAS

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE WORLD CAUSED MANY CHANGES IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE, AS WELL AS DRASTIC CHANGES IN THE SECTOR OF PACKAGING USED IN THE STORAGE, PROTECTION AND TRANSPORTATION OF THE PRODUCTS.

Technological developments in the world caused many changes in the lives of people, as well as drastic changes in the sector of packaging used in the storage, protection and transportation of the products. Today, consumers pay particular attention to the fact that the products they buy are robust, safe, visually beautiful and easily portable. In such a case, along with the widespread use of plastic packaging, there is a variety of forms, designs, materials and usage patterns.

The flexibility, lightness, easy sterilization, and durability of plastic packages make plastic packaging preferable and have achieved a deep success in the packaging industry. Food industry is one of the sectors where plastic packaging is most frequently used. Plastic food packaging does not affect the taste and quality of foods contrary to the beliefs. On the contrary, it protects the flavor of the food against foreign substances that can come from the outside, and also makes them more durable.

The Place of Plastic Packaging in Food Industry

Food industry is the area where plastic and cardboard packaging products are mostly used. In this area, mainly used plastic packagings are; cups to transport and drink hot and cold beverages, non-leaking service containers, salad containers to keep salads fresh, cups for freezing, serving, transporting and eating ice cream, containers to preserve fresh cakes from external substances and maintaining their freshness and pastry containers.

So what are these types of packaging?

There are different types of plastic packaging. Some of these types are PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), PVC (Polychloride), PP (Polypropylene), PS (Polystyrene) and PE (Polyethylene).

Pet (Polyethylene terephthalate) is fully recyclable. It is used in the packaging of water, beverage and oil bottles.

PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride) is divided into two types as hard and flexible. It is used in packaging of vegetable oil and shampoo, water and liquid detergents, certain chemicals, health and cosmetic products.

 

PP (PolyPropylene) is resistant to chemicals, heat and extreme fatigue. Products such as margarine tubes, ketchup bottles, chopsticks, caps, chips and biscuit packages are made from poly propylene.

 

PE (PoliEtilen) has a variety of uses such as bleach, detergent and shampoo bottles, engine oil bottles, garbage bags. It is also widely used in pouch production.
