IN 2019, THE SECOND LARGEST EXPORTING SECTOR WAS CHEMISTRY
According to Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters Association (IKMIB) data, chemical industry has made 1.63 billion dollars exports with the increase of 18.77 percent in August than August 2018. 8-month exports of the chemical sector increased by 18.83 percent and reached $ 13.4 billion.
As mentioned in our previous articles, it was not possible for our country to lead the chemistry, plastic and many other sectors. The news and statistics we receive show that the sectors we estimate are growing day by day. In our opinion, these are only preliminary. Because larger steps are imminent. Again, in order to be the center of the recycling we mentioned before, we expect actions from the sector’s elders in this direction. If you want, let’s examine the sector growth with its ups and downs this year.
Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), who participated in the August 2019 Export Figures Press Release meeting held in Sivas on the 100th anniversary of the Sivas Congress shared his thoughts: In 2019, we are consistently continuing as the second largest exporter in the sector.Chemical exports increased by 18.77 percent in August to $ 1.63 billion. The 8-month exports of our sector increased by 18.83 percent and reached 13.4 billion dollars. Last week, the Export Master Plan was announced by our Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan. We are one of the top 5 sectors in this important master plan which is the guiding feature for exporters. Chemistry has an important role in the export of strategic importance in Turkey’s growth in our sector, it contributed significantly to this growth sector as the second most exporting sector. In order to reduce our raw material dependency in the chemical sector, we need to attract direct investors to our country for our sector. We need to create specialized free zones. We need to design this new stream fully focused on digital change and technologically advanced. Efficiency, innovation and high technology stand out in the new master plan. We, as sector representatives, are supporters of digital change. In line with the 200 billion dollar export targets set for our country in 2019, we, as İKMİB, continue our activities without slowing down in order to increase the exports of our chemical sector by 15 percent to 20 billion dollars.
