100% Recyclable Runnıng Traıner Created!
Adidas has unveiled its first fully-recyclable running shoe. Futurecraft.Loop Trainer stands out as the latest innovation of the famous sportswear brand. The shoe is made of a single material and is a thermoplastic polyurethane form combined with glue.
The purpose of the shoe is to be recycled and reproduced once heavily worn. Thus, Adidas can reuse the material to produce a new pair. Adidas Executive Board Member Eric Liedtke said “Removing plastic waste from the system is the first step, but we can’t stop there.”
As we mentioned in our previous articles, plastic wastes are actually mine for their producers. And big companies are doing their best. What happens after you have worn your shoes? We throw them away, there’s no other choice. If it is used carefully, we can keep it alive for a while with some small repairs. Other than that, cloth, rubber and plastic go to garbage.
Liedtke said that the sports company wishes to “end the concept of waste totally”. “Our dream is that you can go on wearing the same shoes over and over again” he added.
Tanyaradzwa Sahanga, technology innovation manager at Adidas, explained how the brand began to create a new product type for its customers: “We knew that this was a comprehensive vision in every way, technically and behaviorally! There were times when we didn’t believe we could overcome some technical obstacles, but now we’ve taken the first step and we’re coming to change the playing field.”
In 2015, Adidas and its environmental organization Parley produced a performance shoe with a top layer of recycled marine plastic waste. The sportswear brand plans to produce 11 million pairs of plastic materials captured in coastal areas this year. Futurecraft.Loop shoes will first be launched by Adidas in 200 major cities around the world and cities will provide feedback to the company about the shoes. These shoes will then be available throughout the world for spring and summer in 2021.
