Artistic Recycling

Issue 12
  • Artistic Recycling

Street musicians or traveling musicians has been around since people started living in cities. These traveling musicians are known as "Harper", "Minstrel", "Troubadour" in the West, "Skomorokhi", "Barot" in the east, and "Bard" or "şık" in our culture. From time to time, these people, who were able to undertake tasks such as counseling, healing, embassy, wandered city by city, street by street, performed their music, demanded money, food or shelter in return, and were always involved in functions or duties such as conveying oral culture, criticizing the ruler when necessary, educating the public.

Today's street musicians are perhaps not travelers - mostly - but the streets of the modern city are still frequently the scene of musicians performing for money. Moreover, even today, these artists can express that they have goals such as transmitting culture, criticizing and educating, just like minstrels or poets. However, it is clear that not every street is suitable for all purposes or that not every style of music can be performed everywhere; These musicians skillfully choose urban spaces that are suitable for their purpose of making music and therefore the types of music they want to perform.

However, when you listen to the musicians' venue choices, their purpose of making music on the street, the reasons for adopting the style of music they perform, the places they come from and their problems, a multi-layered story will emerge. These stories are human-touched, each of which is a book, and is emotionally dense.

Street artists have a spirit that touches social events and expresses social events the most. This spirit can be felt when you watch and listen to their performances. Street performers, who perform much better than many famous artists, offer concerts with high visual and auditory enjoyment. Of course there is an irony in the title of our article. Some street artists perform interesting and wonderful performances with plastic paint buckets of various sizes and diameters that they use as instruments. These buckets, abandoned as plastic waste, have turned into an art with the discovery of them by street artists. The moment you see this performance, it is a bit difficult not to shake yourself from one side to the other with the rhythm of the music while recording by turning on your camera.

Artistic recycling is much more valuable with plastic waste. Of course, it is much better to make sculptures with plastic waste collected from the ocean, to paint with plastic bags, to play magnificent drum solos with a few paint buckets than a stolen future. Hear these voices, hear these rushes. Do not throw your waste into nature !!!
