Cat Eyes
It would be quite annoying and uncomfortable to have a pair of eyes on you all the time, wouldn't it? But what if those eyes are there to save your life? What if they're watching you in a contemplative moment to save you from the edge of a cliff? We're sure you wouldn't be too bothered then, just as you don't hear about the cat's eyes that protect you from invisible dangers in traffic! The cat's eye is one of many small details in our lives, none of us stop to think about it. But we think it would be a shame if we didn't talk about these little plastic heroes!
86 years ago, an inventor named Percy Shaw, on his way home at the end of a foggy day, noticed two tiny lights in front of him in the pitch dark. This light belonged to the eyes of a passing cat, and it was shining thanks to the light from the headlight. This pair of eyes, which may have saved Shaw from a disastrous accident, inspired the inventor and revealed the cat's eye. A road reflector placed in the middle of the road to help guide drivers in low visibility conditions, the cat's eye reflects light from the headlights, allowing drivers to see where they are going, even in the dark. Cat's-eye also helps disperse fog, allowing drivers to see further ahead, reducing the chance of accidents caused by poor visibility. If you've been in a car accident on a foggy night, you know how important they are to your safety, and if you haven't, you can imagine! A simple plastic cat's eye can prevent thousands of losses each year and save millions of dollars when you factor in medical costs. It's easy to underestimate this when driving on open roads at night, but imagine what would happen if we removed this simple device from our roads!
Produced as a combination of materials such as metal, glass and plastic, cat eyes have adapted to technology today. The cat's eyes, which are made of time-defying abs plastic and unbreakable glass, which emit 10 times stronger light than standard cat eyes and can recharge themselves thanks to solar energy, are a great example of creativity, as well as a good example of how creative plastic can be used. Just like plastic pontoons, they add tremendous value to our lives, even if we pass them by.
Isn't life so intertwined with the little details? Our life may depend on the vibration of a butterfly's wings, perhaps on a pair of cute eyes on the asphalt. Being aware of this will increase our attention and will enable us to pay attention to small details. Life is in the details; details are also in plastic!
