There is no need for fancy sentences in this article, but what young people do is quite striking. We would like to tell you about the domestic initiative that produces bioplastic additive raw materials from waste bread.

Founded by Büşra Köksal and Mert Sugür in March 2019 in Istanbul, Plastic Move is a domestic enterprise that produces bioplastic additive raw materials from waste bread that reaches 5 billion annually. It prevents 6 kilograms of carbon dioxide emission with every 1 kilogram of plastic it produces. It serves as a B2B. This material can be used in filament, disposable plastics and flexible-rigid packaging.

Bioplastic from waste bread

It is said that the plastic market has a size of 568 billion dollars in the world. The bioplastics market has reached a size of $ 35 billion and is expected to grow very rapidly by 2030. PLA raw material, shown as a solution to plastics, is produced by corn cultivation.

Food, land, water and oil are lost during corn cultivation. This was not an environmentally friendly solution as it might seem. At this point, Plastic Move, which wants to find a solution to the problem it sees, contributes to supply security and circular economy by producing bioplastic from bread waste. Using the whole of the bread, it processes the starch inside it into a polymer structure, then turns this structure into a bioplastic filling raw material.

Büşra Köksal, the founding partner of the initiative, said: “Unlike our competitors, we provide the starch used in bioplastic production from waste bread instead of corn cultivation. We can produce 1.2 kilograms of bioplastic from 1 kilogram of bread. And while producing 1 kilogram of bioplastics, we prevent 6 kilograms of carbon emissions. "

The initiative has been accepted to the Hamdi Ulukaya Initiative Entrepreneur Candidate Program 2019, TÜSİAD This Youth Is Work 2020 final, the Social Impact Award and finally the Workup so far.
