The plastic things at the end of the data cables are called ferrite beads and they are used to prevent interferences caused by radio signals coming from other electronic devices. It is one of the areas that plastic is vital. Ferrite beads or ferrite nodes are passive electronic parts of plastic that prevent signal interferences and high frequency noise among electronic circuits. The most common places we see them are especially modern computer mouse devices, keyboards and HDMI cables.

Ferrite beads consist of plastic and ferrite ceramic composites to drown high frequency noises out and for current distribution. However, these ferrite beads are also knows as blocs, cores, rings and EMI filters.

A comprehensive definition of the EMI is as follows:
Electromagnetic interference can be defined as all types of natural or fabricated aliasing effects or interfering signals in radio frequencies that cause to decreases, defects and malfunctioning in the performance of electrics and electrical devices. Various small ferrite beads are often used in internal conductors, transistors, connectors and around the pins of small circuit board components like integrated circuits.

Ferrite beads around the spiral wires, thanks to its geometric shape, electromagnetic features and alternating current resistance cause to reduce in high frequency EMI / RFI noises.

And what is this RFI? RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) roughly means noise. While it can be avoided, it can also be used as an interference. It also depends on the frequency of the protected signal. For example, TÜBİTAK has its own EMI filters that it produces. It is obligatory for RFI to be used in places where confidential projects are conducted since computer data can be accessed through mains voltage.
