Green Sports
Sport is one of the indispensable activities for a healthy life. It is the formula for keeping our body fit and living long, like morning runs, evening walks, bike rides or indoor activities. Even if you do not have any disease, doing sports regularly also protects our mental health.
Even if we don't feel well, a little walk will do you good. When we go to the doctor, sports will be recommended to us immediately for the surprise health problems we will encounter. In fact, the indicator of starting the day early and having a pleasant start is not breakfast, but sports. It will take hours to count individual or team sports activities. However, there is such a sporting trend that it is worth the world. We don't know if you've ever heard of it, but we want to tell you about plogging.
This sport, which was invented by the Swedes, the owner of the language that is also the source of the word, can be defined as collecting garbage while doing nature jogging. The word comes from the Swedish plocka upp (pick up) or "plocka skräp" (garbage picking) and jogga (jog) is used to describe this sport. Until the 1960s, jogging meant walking or riding a horse repurposed for healthy exercise, but these days it already feels old-fashioned. As part of the general rhetorical professionalization of recreational activity, people had been running like Olympians for years instead of just jogging. Jogging, which felt at a certain pace and somewhat aimless, had lost its meaning. Plogging, which started as a social media movement, is a kind of civil awareness project created with the mission of both doing sports and cleaning the environment.
The main logic in plogging is based on the logic of collecting waste on the track while doing sports on the one hand. While some athletes run with garbage bags in their hands, others create awareness by carrying waste on them. While this activity is one of the most shared hashtags of recent times on social media, this application, which has also become a trend, is carried out by many people. Users commenting on Plogging pointed out that this application is a social awareness project just like ALS Challenge, while this activity, which is also carried out as a group, creates a competitive environment by looking at who collects more waste and adds some fun to the work.
It would be unreasonable to ask why such movements do not arise as ideas from underdeveloped countries, while advanced developed countries are very close and productive to such activities and ideas. However, it would be just as unreasonable not to create environmental awareness through education and awareness in underdeveloped countries. Because this planet is ours. As a citizen of the world, it should be our primary duty to collect wastes that are empty in nature, whether for sports or with environmental awareness.
Thank you to whoever started the trend. We would like to thank everyone who does sports thinking about their own health and who tries to clean the environment by thinking about the health of the world. Of course, running for our own body and the world without stopping will certainly make us happy. Let's do Plogging…
