New Solutions In Education
With the pandemic, many people, many sectors, many economies and many states were negatively affected from different angles in different areas. The tragedy for many people whose health is affected is of course the worst. What about kids? How were the children affected? How are they going through this pandemic process? How are parents, grandparents, mothers, grandmothers and elders affected by their children? It is not easy to answer these questions. Maybe years later, the answers to these questions will be analyzed much more clearly with the problems that emerge.
Shortly after the scientists announced that children were not affected by the coronavirus, but were carriers, it turned into an urban legend with the mutation of the virus. The children getting sick and the deaths turned all the data upside down. So how do we protect children from children while trying to protect the elderly by keeping the elderly away from children? Looks like it is impossible… Is it possible to tell a child about social distance at a time when they want to interact the most? Of course it was not possible and we imprisoned our children in four walls at once, just like our elderly people, just like people with chronic diseases… We closed schools, parks became quiet, children's laughter was unheard of in the streets. It's like Chernobyl, like Hiroshima, as if Nagasaki is everywhere… But somehow education and training had to continue, somehow we have to prepare our children for the future. Educators and scientists rolled up their sleeves for online education. Software, hardware, investments, changing education models were quickly prepared for everyone. The digital revolution was happening in education, as in every field. According to some authorities around the world, online education has been successful, and according to some authorities it was definitely a fiasco. Let alone the discussion of online education, teaching can be done online, maybe, what about education?
Educators agreed that schools should be opened for education, and countries around the world started to open schools in line with their standards and abilities. Health and education were the first to be in conflict. Although scientists warned educators that opening schools would be a disaster, schools were opened with the pressure of the schools being financially difficult. Educators believe that if schools do not open and students fall short of both education and training, the effects and costs will be heavy in the next 15 years. From the perspective of students, of course, all of them, from kindergarten to university students, want schools to be opened. It is every student's dream to run freely in the corridors, to share life with friends as longing goes, to hug their teachers.
States, ministries, administrators and educators have started and completed many studies regarding the measures to be taken and to be taken in schools. They said that schools are ready with changing masks before entering the school, having disinfectants in the corridors, hanging up social distance warning signs, reduced class sizes and many other measures. As the parents said it was not enough, the administrators forced the conditions. In the Netherlands, plastic shields were placed around students' desks. Although the thickness of shields made of PVC/PC is not very important, it is applied as an effective solution to prevent contamination. Plastic continues to offer us practical and effective solutions in all areas of our lives.
