Ocean Cleanıng Machıne Has Been Successful
We told you about this machine before. Let’s summarize a part and take a look at the new development.
Last summer, scientists were preparing to operate the world’s first machine to clean up the planet’s largest mass of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean. Initially imagined by a teenager, the system was sent to the Greater Pacific Waste Patch between Hawaii and California last summer, with the goal of recycling an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic.

And now great improvement. The first success of the low-cost project, developed by Dutch scientists to collect plastic waste in the oceans, was achieved.
In the Pacific Ocean, there is a waste pile spread on an area which is three times larger than Turkey. And an 600-meter-long barrier was left here. In this way, a large number of waste from one-ton fishing nets to truck tires and microplastics were collected.
According to the Guardian newspaper published in the UK, Boyan Slat, the creator of the Ocean Cleanup project, which developed the barrier, announced that a ship plans to visit this barrier every few months and collect the plastics collected in the barrier and land them for recycling.
How to collect plastic in the region was a question that has been sought in recent years. Slat’s project stood out with its low cost since it did not require a ship that was constantly circulating in the region. The barrier, the prototype of which was tested before, was torn apart to withstand harsh ocean conditions. Nowadays, it is estimated that there are 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic in the oceans and they are all ready for recycling.
The Guardian reports that every year 8 million tons of plastic mix from land to sea, and 800,000 tons of fishing equipment is dropped or dropped into the oceans.
Slat held a press conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on the status of the project yesterday, the project will become self-financing within a few years with the sale of collected plastics, he said. Slat added that a special market could be formed thanks to people who want to make projects using these plastics.
