  • Recyclıng Push From Volvo Ceo Of Swedısh Automobıle Manufacturer Volvo, Hakan Samuelsson, Announced That The Company Aıms To Have 25% Of The Plastıcs Used In New Volvo Cars Made From Recycled Materıal By 2025.

CEO of Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo, Hakan Samuelsson, announced that the company aims to have 25% of the plastics used in new Volvo cars made from recycled material by 2025. Samuelsson added that the use of recycled plastics will not affect the quality or safety of cars. Volvo, which produced 5% of the plastics used in vehicles manufactured last year from recycled materials, is praised by the United Nations for these projects. “As far as we are aware, this is the first attempt to source waste as a raw material for a new vehicle,” said Norwegian diplomat and former politician Erik Solheim, who currently heads the U.N. Environment Program.

Determined to improve sustainability in the automotive industry, Volvo has produced a special version of the XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid SUV in order to demonstrate its commitment. This special version looks identical to the standard XC60, the only difference being the use of plastic parts that were made from recycled materials for certain cabin components.

The console of the special XC60 is made from recycled plastic material derived from discarded fishing nets and ropes. A blend of fibers made from PET plastic bottles and recycled cotton from textile waste is used in the seats and the carpets. And old Volvo car seats are recycled to produce sound-proofing material.

Having set its goal for the period after 2025, the company also wants the suppliers in the automotive industry to support the cause by developing sustainable new generation components. The Swedish manufacturer had previously announced that it will shift its focus to electric cars starting 2019.
