The Truth That Sılıcone Is Not Plastıc

  • The Truth That Sılıcone Is Not Plastıc

How much do we know about silicone products that have recently been used in our kitchens? Silicone is not a product, on the contrary, it is the purest area of chemistry. In this section, you can learn about the properties that make silicones unique in the dizzying world of silicones, and how they contribute to solving our problems and leading innovations that increase our living standards.

Silicone is the generic name for many different polymeric chains and systems structured on the basis of Si-O-Si. Silicones, technically defined as polysiloxanes, are almost a magical bridge between organic and inorganic chemistry.

Silicones that combine the advantages of glass and plastic have the qualities that no other material has in the world; silicones, like plastics, are resistant (carbon-based) and can be used in many forms. Like glass, they are also resistant to heat and moisture (silicone-based) and are chemically inert and insulating.

What Is The Raw Material Of Silicone, Is It Harmful For Our Health?

First of all we need to know that silicone and plastic are different from each other. The raw material of silicon is silica sand, which is also used in glass making. Silicon is obtained by liquefying this sand at high temperature and passing it through different processes. In 1979, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that silicone-based products are safe for cooking. The silicone products that are claimed to be healthy can be easily used in cakes and muffin molds in our ovens.
You can think of silicon as a modified flexible quartz, obtained by replacing silicon molecules attached to two oxygen atoms with organic groups. In polydimethylsiloxanes (the most basic and most commonly used silicone kind), these organic groups are methyl groups (CH3).
This displacement transforms quartz, which has a solid three-dimensional structure, into a solid yet flexible and linear polymer shape with organic groups freely rotating around the Si-O-Si chain.

What Are The Advantages Of Silicone Products?

Flexible as rubber.
Thanks to the silicone molds, you can remove the food that you cook from their molds without ruining their forms. You do not need to oil your mold.
They can be used in the oven with peace of mind. Silicone products are heat resistant.
No odor or taste is transmitted to the cooked products.
They can be used for a long time if the conditions of use are met.
They are easy to clean.

They appeal to the eye with different color options.

What Should Be Considered When Buying Silicone Products?

As with any product, you should choose reliable stores when purchasing silicone products. You should pay attention to the selection of products that have been tested for health and are not harmful. So as you can understand, as long as the types of glass, plastic, silicon and metal are controlled, they all have assurance. Whatever you use, be careful where you buy it.
