The Winner Of Our Hearts
Everyone who works for recycling, volunteers, researches professionally, takes and separates the waste on the ground is number one in our hearts. Now we will tell you about such a beautiful and valuable project that it is impossible not to feel emotional.
The Recycled Plastics Victory Podium Project, launched in June 2019, mobilized citizens to donate used home plastics for recycling, with the cooperation of 113 schools and major retailers from across Japan, and the active participation of P&G Group offices and organizations.
The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced on Monday (September 28th) that it has successfully collected enough plastic to create the podiums to be used in all Paralympic and Olympic Victory Ceremonies.
The major collaboration enabled the campaign of 24.5 tons of used plastics, equivalent to approximately 400,000 bottles of laundry detergent, each weighing 900 grams, collected in about nine months, reaching collection targets by March 2020.
The Tokyo 2020 Games will be the first Olympic and Paralympic Games podium made of plastic used as a ceremony for the people's victory podium. The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has advocated sustainability as a key element of games, with the concept of 'Become better together', demonstrating examples of sustainable solutions both in Japan and abroad to work towards a more sustainable society.
Resource Management is one of Tokyo 2020's key focus areas where it aims to use recycled materials and reuse or recycle 99 percent of all purchased items. This project also contributes to the incentive for the public to facilitate wider participation in sustainability.
A prime example of this incentive is the Tokyo 2020 Medal Project, where small electronic devices such as used mobile phones are collected and recycled from the public in Japan, allowing all Paralympic and Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals to be fully produced. Tokyo 2020 also aims to make carbon-free Games, where 100 percent of the electricity used in venues comes from renewable sources.
Recycled Plastic Medal Ceremony Podium Project Collection, Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee and Procter & Gamble Japan Ltd. It was carried out in cooperation. The design of the Tokyo 2020 Victory Ceremony Podium will be announced at a later date.
What can we say, we hope other Olympics will be like this.
