We Recycled 1 Mıllıon Tons Of Plastıc Waste
In Turkey, about 1 million tons of plastic is brought back into the economy each year. The revenue from the export of converted products approached $ 1 billion. plastic scrap industry in Turkey is growing every day. 850 thousand tons of plastic waste was converted into the economy. The export figure approaching 1 billion dollars was reached. Selçuk Gülsün, Chairman of the Board of PAGDER, said they hold $ 20 billion in waste fields.
The plastic material that we can obtain and recycle does not exceed 400-500 thousand tons per year. But we have a lot of possibilities.
Production capacity is expected to exceed 4 million tons by 2030. Exports will increase as the capacity increases. If the targets are met, the current account deficit of $ 5 billion will be prevented. 39 thousand shows licensed from operating activities for the conversion of plastic waste in Turkey. More than 350 thousand people are employed in the sector.
38 Million Waste Tire Revived With Recycling
In the last 12 years, 38 million tires were collected and recycled in Turkey. Waste tires are used in fields such as artificial turf, playground ground and running track.
The number of motor vehicles in Turkey is increasing every day. With this increase, millions of waste tires have expired. LASDER (Tire Industrialists’ Association) aims to establish a solution to this tire waste problem.
Founded in 2007 within the framework of the Regulation on Control of Expired Tires, the Association is working on waste tires. In Turkey’s 81 provinces and all districts the tires which completed their life span are collected and the collected tires are converted to be received maximum efficiency.
They are collected from all around Turkey
Expired tires are collected from tire sales points in all regions of Turkey, dismantling and repair places, auto service stations, municipalities and public institutions / organizations and sent for recycling from. The collection with authorized carriers continues uninterrupted throughout the year.
178 thousand tons of tires in 2018
According to the data of LASDER, 163 thousand tons of tires in 2017 and 178 thousand tons of tires in 2018 were collected and recovered. The weight of the collected and recycled tires since 2007, which was the foundation year, is 1 million 130 thousand tons. That’s about 38 million tires.
They are Turned into Park Floors
Expired Tires are recovered in several different ways. In the granulation process, which is one of these, the tires are broken down into millimeters at the shredding machines and turned into granules. The application of the granules obtained from this application is quite wide. It is used in artificial grass fields, playground grounds, running and walking tracks, tartan tracks and recreation areas.
Another method that has become more widespread in recent years is pyrolysis. Expired tires are reacted with high heat from outside in an oxygen-free environment in a reactor. Here, pyrolytic oil with high calorific value is obtained. It is possible to generate electrical energy by burning this obtained oil in generators. Demand for pyrolysis method increased especially after expired tires were included in the scope of Renewable Energy in the last 2 years.
Reduces Carbon Dioxide Emissions
The collection and recovery of end-of-life tires is also important for the environment. Because uncollected tires affect nature in different areas from carbon dioxide emission to mosquito reproduction. Recycled tires, which can be used as fuel in factories, provide 35 percent less carbon dioxide compared to fossil fuels, thus helping to maintain air quality. Mosquitoes and various harmful bacteria are formed by the accumulation of water in the tires that are not collected. This situation negatively affects the environment and human health.
