Actors & Demands
SOME OF TURKEY’S MOST IMPORTANT COMPANIES IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION, EXPORTS, KNOW-HOW AND EMPLOYMENT ARE IN THE HOME APPLIANCE INDUSTRY. AS OF 2014, THERE WERE THREE HOME APPLIANCE MANUFACTURERS AMONG TURKEY’S TOP 30 INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES AND SEVEN OF THEM IN THE TOP 500.
Turkish home appliance industry has investments outside of Turkey as well, especially in countries with lower production and export costs such as China, Romania, Russia and South Africa. Domestic investments, on the other hand, tend to converge around cities where other industries have also concentrated.
Being one of the areas that Turkey’s most established conglomerates such as Koç and Zorlu groups value and invest in is also a blessing for the home appliance industry. This is yet another factor that positively impacts the home appliance industry’s confidence and its significance for the Turkish economy. In addition to such power players, about 500 small- and medium-sized supplier companies, 15,000 retail points, 3,500 post-purchase service providers are also among the actors of the industry.
The industry’s expectations include an increase in foreign investments and collaborations, and government acts like boosting the industry’s incentives and reductions in order to facilitate this. In addition to this, one of the foremost priorities of the industry is an increase in the state’s investments in R&D in order to help Turkish home appliance industry enhance its competitive strength. One expectation they have for the domestic market is a reduction in tax rates similar to the one in 2017 in order to fuel domestic consumption. Another is a reduction in the import taxes on raw materials, which would mean lower raw material costs, which constitutes one of the heftiest cost categories.
