I Think I Have Seen A Ghost
One of the first questions asked in show programs or fantastic conversations in the 90s, what would you do if you were invisible is now an ordinary conversation topic. Invisibility is no longer a dream, even if it is not fully realized or has partial use in certain areas.
In science fiction films, underground secret research centers with the funds of the world's largest companies, the researches, the experiments applied, the tense moments in the tests and the chain of events that finally got out of hand are the constant cinema scenarios of Sunday nights. What about nowadays? Today, the cinema scenarios of the past years come true one by one. Like epidemics, invisibility, for example.
Every invention, every invention changes the flow of our lives and the balances in the world, of course. UCI engineering professor Alon Gorodetsky and doctoral student Chengyi Xu made a breakthrough by inventing a flexible new material, both from cuttlefish skin and dinosaurs with remarkable properties. This breakthrough was mainly designed for the soldiers. Compressed from aluminum, plastic and adhesive tapes, the material basically reflects light and does not show heat, like the skin of an ink-bond.
Potential uses of the material include camouflage for soldiers, spacecraft, storage containers, emergency shelters, clinical care, building heating and cooling systems. “We were inspired by both science fiction and science phenomena. That's why we decided to combine these concepts to design a truly unique technology ”, it wouldn't be wrong to say that this work is exciting.
The foundations of the above study were laid exactly two years ago. As in every field, the breakthroughs made in this field also attracted the attention of others and other countries and companies continued their work at full speed. Nowadays, invisibility material has already taken its place in military clothing. Soldiers who are not caught by thermal cameras and do not display images act like a ghost in operations. Those who do not have this technology can not say more than the sentence as if I saw a ghost. We see invisibility material not only in military camouflages, but also in military vehicles, even in mini shows on social media individually.
In the years to come, we don't know where the research and development of invisibility material will lead, but science fiction is now everywhere in our daily lives. It looks like we will be going to watch sports competitions on Mars in a short time. Be you, watch out for ghosts.
