It is not an architect's home design, a fashion designer's dress design, a food stylist's plate design, but what makes life enjoyable and livable. Plastic products are among the materials that are widely used in daily life. This situation has caused enormous increases in the production of plastic products. The main goal of today's technology is to be able to produce quality products with the least cost and quickly. As a result, it has become necessary to develop new methods in the manufacturing of products. However, every method developed became acceptable after applying it in computer environment and determining its positive and negative aspects. Therefore, the importance given to the design phase of the products has increased more.
Various manufacturing methods have been developed in the production of plastic parts according to the physical and chemical properties of the product. The most important and widely used method of molding in the plastic industry is injection molding. In the injection molding technique, the quality, geometric structure and dimensional tolerances of the produced part, the factors that affect the surface quality and strength have been the subject of many studies. Process planning steps for plastic part design and mold manufacturing should be carried out together. In general, important mold design steps such as determining part direction and mold opening line, forming part surfaces and design of mold parts should be taken into consideration.
When the studies in the literature were examined, it was found that the user was asked a lot of questions in design studies and this was seen as a deficiency. The design of plastic injection molds as solid models can be carried out in a computer environment without maximum user interaction. During the design, it will be beneficial to take the solid model of the plastic product to be produced as a basis. There are three basic elements in injection molding. These; The plastic raw material that will form the product is the mold that gives the shape of the product and the injection machine where these processes are made.
One of the most important features of plastic parts is that they can be formed easily. One of the most important elements of such a process is a piece of equipment called a mold, formed by systematically assembling a large number of metal blocks. The plastic injection mold is a set consisting of multiple parts that fill the melted plastic into the cavity and take the shape of the cavity. In the plastic injection method, the shape, dimensions, quality and tolerances of the product are primarily determined by the mold. After the molten plastic is injected from the injection nozzle into the mold runner, the injection cycle takes place inside the mold. The design of the molds is made by considering the dimensions, structure, precision and injection parameters of the product to be produced.
While designing the molds, the gating system is usually placed on the female plate and the pusher system on the male plate. During the cooling of the molten plastic, due to the shrinkage of the plastic material, the cooled product shrinks on the male part of the mold and is separated from the female part of the mold. The line formed during the closing of the mold male and female surfaces and that makes the mold cavity closed is called the mold separation line. In order for the molded part to be easily removed from the mold, a mold separation line suitable for the shape of the molded part should be created.
