Regarding the two standards, there are two different connection forms. T-568B wiring scheme is most commonly used, some devices also support T-568A wiring scheme. It is a straight connection if both ends of the connecting cables are wired on a standard basis. Both standards can be used over straight cable. If not, it's a cross link.
