The World Does Detox
Due to the pandemic, the world is much cleaner, the animals are much more free. The world is detoxing, the effects of humankind on the world are disappearing. Although it is a fascist approach to say how bad people are treating the world, the reports confirm this.
Due to the measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus epidemic and curfews applied, air was cleared in many cities, albeit temporarily. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) of the United Nations (UN) estimates that the Covid-19 pandemic will cause the greatest reduction in the level of carbon dioxide emissions since World War II. Petteri Taalas, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization, said the 6% reduction in carbon emissions is a short-term good news. Taalas underlined that this decline will not be enough to meet the rate required to meet the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement target, 7% decline per year is required.
In the Global Climate report published today, the World Meteorological Organization reported that 2015-2019 is the hottest five-year period recorded, and the average global temperature increased by 1.1 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial level.
One of the most polluted cities in the world, New Delhi is one of those cities whose air is cleaned. Short sight distances caused by air pollution in India have been replaced by landscapes that have not been seen for decades. Nitrogen dioxide pollution in the northeast of America decreased by 30 percent. The rate of air pollution in Rome fell 49 percent compared to a year ago in the one month period from mid-March to mid-April. The stars became more prominent in the night sky.
Wild animals started to be seen in city centers and squares. While wolves strolled around Chicago's famous Michigan Avenue and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, cougar was spotted on the streets of Santiago, the capital of Chile. Goats captured a town in Wales. In India, hungry monkeys entered the houses and tried to find food in their refrigerators. Dolphins started swimming in marinas in Istanbul. A kangaroo was spotted in Adelaide, Australia. Coyote flocks invade an empty parking lot in Tel Aviv. In Venice, giant jellyfish roam the canals. Vultures began to circulate on the highway, where there is no traffic due to quarantine in Ecuador.
Environmental protection scientist Stuart Pimm from Duke University says it offers an extraordinary glimpse of what People make our beautiful planet and gives us an opportunity to see how beautiful everything can be.
Experts aim to track unexpected changes in areas such as weeds, insects, meteorological images, sound and light pollution. The Italian government is working on organizing an ocean expedition to observe the change in the seas.
NASA atmospheric scientist Barry Lefer says that the air on the Boston-Washington line has the cleanest values recorded since 2005, when nitrogen dioxide measurements began. Since nitrogen dioxide pollution is dependent on the use of fossil fuels, air is also cleaned quickly when fossil fuel use is reduced.
In short, nature takes back control and enjoys getting rid of people even for a short period of time. It would be foolish to blame the world for climate changes, melting glaciers, the greenhouse effect, polluted oceans, extinct animal species and plants, unbreathable metropolises, chaos and anxiety.
