Rolling Away
We still don't know who invented it. While archaeologists argue among themselves, let's call him one of the thousands of unsung heroes who shape history, he changed the world forever. Today we cannot imagine a life without wheels. Transportation is one of the most basic needs for every human being, and providing it without wheels has seemed impossible for human beings for thousands of years. Without the wheel, we could neither fulfill our needs nor move our civilization one step further. So how did the historical adventure of the wheel develop?
Contrary to what first comes to mind, the wheel was not invented primarily to meet the need for transportation. Before the wheel, transportation was provided by sleds and the load was carried. The findings show that the wheel was used to give the right shape in pottery making, and later evolved into purposes such as carrying loads and traveling with the domestication of animals such as cattle and horses.
First, thick discs and logs were used, and over time, stringed devices were prepared and a form close to today's wheel was obtained. In addition to transportation, the use of wheels provided an indisputable superiority on the battlefield. Chariots pulled by 2 wheels and a few horses provided mobilization and left the infantry helpless with their high maneuverability.
Over time, the wheel began to be used extensively in transportation and its forms developed day by day. Scottish veterinarian Boyd Dunlop's 1888 invention was the turning point for wheels. Pneumatic tires were invented that could be pumped into air and were relatively easy to manufacture compared to their successors. Natural rubber was used in the production of these tires. Artificial rubber, which was commercialized by the American inventor Du Pont in 1931, caused a great decrease in production costs and a sudden breakthrough in the tire industry. Developing technology and competition have enabled tires to be produced in accordance with all conditions today.
Tires, one of the numerous usage areas of plastic in our lives, have a great impact on reaching the final state of the transportation adventure. The reason behind this is that the plastic rubber can be applied on the tire, the most important reason behind the industrial mass production of the tire.
Tires, which can be used for different purposes in different seasons and on different roads, are important indicators that plastic production technologies are beyond our imaginations. It's nice to be on the road, to be able to go a long way in every sense; If there was no plastic, would we be on the road or stay on the road, your appreciation!
